The painting is inspired by the trip to Iceland in 2021, and was created for the exhibition ‘From sea to sea: Finale – Iceland’ which was held at the Forte San Giovanni museum in Finalborgo in October 2024. After many years, I remember with great pleasure the swimming pools of Iceland, all outdoors despite the inclement climate. The waterslide depicted was located in the Neskaupstadur facility, over an hour and a half’s drive from the residence, a swimming pool where we have only been once. The landscape, on the other hand, is that of our fjord, Stödvarfjördur. It is a painting that would like to convey a feeling of waiting, as if time were suspended and a threat were hanging in the air – it is a feeling that I often associate with those months, because despite the beauty of being in a fantastic place making art I could not put aside the uncertainty about the future, between the Covid that had been raging on the continent for over a year now and the fact that after finishing the Academy of Fine Arts I felt completely lost in the vast sea of the world ‘outside’ (a world that I did not even recognize anymore with the pandemic).
