This painting was born as an attempt to imagine the consequences on humanity and the environment of a possible World War 3 in the 21st century. I chose to represent a place commonly considered beautiful, desirable, to be protected, and to alter it by playing with colors and shapes until arriving at a hypothetical post-apocalyptic scenario where there is nothing left to save. The choice fell on a seascape of Sant’Antioco island, that I recently visited at a time when I thought I had some certainties about the future, and which struck me for the presence of small natural pools that formed microcosms among the smooth rocks. I could not have known that this work, with its atmosphere of desolation and bewilderment, would today also come to speak of my condition as a neo-thirties who feels having lost the way – or the faith on dreams.
